Pink on Parade: Riverside's Breast Cancer Walk May 17, 2014
What: Pink on Parade -- Riverside’s Breast Cancer Walk -- to raise awareness about Breast Cancer in Riverside, CA and funds for The Pink Ribbon Place.
When: May 17, 2014. Registration opens at 8 a.m. Walk begins at 9 a.m. Family activities until 12 p.m.
Where: Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd, Riverside, CA 92501
Why: The need for breast cancer education and services remains high in our area. Not only is breast cancer the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, Riverside and San Bernardino counties have some of the highest mortality rates for breast cancer in all of Southern California. Experts attribute this high mortality rate to late diagnosis, indicating a lack of knowledge about breast cancer and its signs and symptoms.
Our mission is clear – we need to raise awareness about breast cancer to save the lives of those we love. When breast cancer is detected early, the five-year relative survival rate is 98%. The Pink on Parade Walk, and its associated marketing campaign, will help raise awareness about breast health issues for both men and women in our area. By walking on May 17, building a team, and spreading the word you are directly impacting the health of our community and the hold breast cancer has on it.
Along with raising awareness, Pink on Parade will support The Pink Ribbon Place, Riverside’s first – and only – breast cancer resource center. The Pink Ribbon Place, which began in 2006, helps over 1,000 families a year who are impacted by breast cancer through its counseling services, survivor mentorship program, health and wellness classes, support groups, and American Cancer Society wig bank and breast prosthesis bank.
